Report: Increase in Grand Theft Auto in LCF, All Other Crimes Drop

A crime summary released for Los Angeles Sheriff's Department stations details reported incidents and crime rates for the first half of 2013, compared to the same period last year and five years ago. Here's how La Cañada fared.

The first half of 2013 has shown six cases of grand theft auto in La Cañada Flintridge, as compared to three this time last year, but all other crime is down, a recently released Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department crime summary shows.

The summary displays reported incidents and crime rates for the first six months of 2013—through June 30—compared to the same period last year and five years ago.

Reported Part I crimes are down 14.5 percent compared to the same time period last year. Those crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny/theft, motor vehicle theft and arson.

Specifically, across La Cañada, robbery is down 33.1 percent, aggravated assault plummeted 66.6 percent, burglaries dipped 17.7 percent and larceny theft decreased, 10.7 percent. Grand theft auto is the only crime on the rise, according to the report.  

The city so far this year has seen zero incidents of criminal homicide or forcible rape.

La Cañada's dip in crime is in line with a trend across all Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department stations, where reported violent crime is down 7.11 percent; property crime is up 1.69 percent; and Part I crimes are down .07 percent compared to the first half of 2012.
