Authored by Assembly Rep. Mike Gatto, the bill would require California major league teams to post contact numbers for stadium security.
Assembly Bill 2464, the Improving Personal Safety at Stadiums Act, passed the Assembly, Thursday, by a unanimous 71-0 vote. Authored by representative Mike Gatto, incumbent for the 43rd Assembly District which includes La Cañada as part of the new redistricting, the bill was inspired by increased fan violence at pro stadiums, including the Bryan Stow beating last March at Dodger Stadium. The bill requires major league stadiums in California to post numbers for calls or texts to contact stadium security about fan violence. The signs must be visible from the stands and in parking lots. In a press release Gatto says it is security--not police--who is best poised to put down violent incidents, since security is inside the stadium. Like the …

As law enforcement authorities announced Friday that they were going to search the Verdugo Mountains on foot for missing FBI agent Stephen Ivens, his wife updated the Facebook page dedicated to his safe return. Titled "Thea's Thoughts,'' Thea Ivens wrote: Today is not a good day. Today is a week-versary of Steve’s disappearance. My little munchkin & I are not happy campers right now. Last night, I heard the word “trauma.” I know that word but somehow, I haven’t associated myself to that word until I heard it & thought. “Oh, that was what happened to me & our family.” At church this morning, I can’t help the flowing of tears. These past couple of days, I felt empty, exhausted & I thought I’d cried everything out already. I’m surprised that …

Southern California Gas Co. customers should watch out for a scammer who requests Social Security numbers over the phone by claiming President Barack Obama will offer credit or payment on bills.
Southern California Gas Co. warned its customers Tuesday about a scam in which the culprits tell victims they can get credits on their utility bills if they provide information such as a Social Security number. According to the gas company, scammers have visited customers in person, used social media sites and even sent text messages to victims claiming that President Barack Obama is offering a program of bill credits or direct payment of bills. Gas company officials said workers for the utility always carry proper identification when visiting customers, and they do not randomly call or text customers asking for Social Security numbers or other personal information. I was so shaken up that I pulled over immediately and the officer almost hit me because he was expecting me to exit. I was talking on my cell phone and yes, I paid the fine :-(   more ›
