Hello, I live on Grand View Blvd. in Mar Vista Los Angeles. Tonight I scarred off 2 COYOTES from my…Read More driveway at 2:30am (on Jan 5 2013). I had let my cat out earlier and went to call him in when I saw them out front. Thankfully I was able to retrieve him and my other cats who were also out. Surprisingly my dog did not bark during the whole occurrence. I have also recently, (yesterday) seen a large, pink tipped HAWK circling my area and at the top of Grand View Hill @ Palms around 12 noon-1 pm, and have been told by a neighbor that there is an OWL hanging around as well!. THESE ARE ALL PREDATORS AND ARE LOOKING FOR OUR PETS as FOOD/PREY All of this is REALLY BAD news for owners of small pets that spend time outdoors unattended. PLEASE NOTIFY RESIDENTS!!

I just followed in my car and kept honking the horn over & over again until I finally had scared it away. I did inform Animal Control on the same day. Unfortuantely I was not able to save a cat that they had already killed and were eating prior. I hate to see ANY animal in danger, nevertheless when it is someone's pet!

Disaster survivors lack these basic rights and vital information in their time of need, when they are most vulnerable. They can be any one of us...that's our lot—or not. I happen to think you're wise to keep your "drive" alive.

We all have skeletons in our earthquake preparedness closet, so it's time to start identifying those areas of your home that are unsafe and doing something about it. There is a reason those rugged mountains are to the north of us and it's called plate tectonics. The great heat engine of our planet does not stop. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

Good question. I figure they're doing what they can with the resources they can spare. Just a guess…Read More though - I'm certainly no expert. As a motorcyclist, the possibility of a ticket or of running off the mountain is enough to keep my own speed down but then, I'm not big on adrenaline rushes anyway.
I suppose some good might be done if there was a way to call more attention to the fact that the Angeles Crest Highway is an extremely unforgiving road with little room for error or correction. Signs? A Public Service Announcement? Unlikely.
One of the major motorcycle magazines did an article on it a while back which gave me a healthy respect for it. Then again that can backfire and act as a magnet for the thrill seekers. Again, good question.

Good news for scenic route drivers!
The California Department of Transportation has just reopened the Angeles Crest Highway, a popular route for motorcyclists. As more motorcyclists get on the accident-prone highway, the California Highway Patrol has announced an increase in enforcement on this particular route.
The Angeles Crest Highway offers motorcyclists a scenic ride, and has long been popular with bikers. However, the highway with its sharp curves and steep cliffs can be rife with accident risks for motorcyclists. The California Highway Patrol is advising motorcyclists this summer to take more care on the accident prone route.
The motorcycle safety enforcement initiative is being funded by a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety. The money will be used to step up enforcement against traffic violations by motorcyclists and drivers. According to the California Highway Patrol, the Angeles Crest Highway has one of the highest accident rates in California. State data shows that 164 motorcycle accidents occurred on one particular stretch of the highway from Starlight Crest Drive to Route 39 over a one-year period. Eight of these accidents ended in fatalities. Speeding, in fact, was a major factor in motorcycle accidents on the Angeles Crest Highway, accounting for more than 98 of the accidents.

AJ Blumenfeld, who saw a need in the community for a thorough discussion of educational issues facing LCF, ran an unprecedentedly technologically adept campaign, and overcame the skepticism of many to give a 20-year old college student the chance to give back to school system that gave so much to him, by electing him to the School Board.
Ellen Multari, a relative newcomer to LCF, who has jumped in with both feet and full body, heart and soul, to provide countless hours of service through PTA and LCFEF, and ran a positive campaign to become a member of our school board.
Kathy Hernandez, who for nearly 20 years has set the gold standard for public service, school involvement and leveraging of social media technology to communicate and drive results for our schools and our communities. Kathy is now employed at the Rossier School of Education at USC, where she continues to evangelize on education, communication and social media issues.
Pat Anderson, whose tireless leadership at LCF Chamber of Commerce has made LCF a better place to do business, and whose organization has allowed the LCF business community to provide events, sponsorships and educational/leadership opportunity to LCF youth, all of which makes LCF a better place.
