Glad to see limits (hopefully) being place on high school football. The research shows time andRead More time again the damage being done to the human brain after consistent hits to the head. Minimizing the risk seems like the natural and best thing to do.
JMarsh July 10, 2014 at 02:15 pm
I totally agree with limiting the chance of brain trauma. One thing we need to remember is thatRead More junior high and high school students' brains are still developing.
Giorgio C. July 10, 2014 at 04:39 pm
For those who think it is ok for your kid to get their brain throttled, do you support their use ofRead More drugs, too? Mixed messages.

Owner Sterling should fight this matter all the way to the Supreme Court if possible!!! PublicRead More OPINION doesn't trump the rule of law although State-media in this country has apparently already ruled on the matter. But the Rule of Law states that ILLEGALLY recorded private conversations between two people ARE PRIVATE and not admissible in court unless murder or some other capital crime are involved. The way I see it the NBA can only make recommendations since these private opinions and jealous feelings by Sterling were recorded illegally, taken out of context by an overzealous biased media and an NBA organization hell-bent on a 'racist' witch-hunt and a sale of Sterling's team to prop up the NBA's reputation. Beyond that, America STILL HAS 1st Amendment protections that have not yet been completely dismantled by this Marxist regime in D.C. The 1st Amendment, if we will recall, provides FREEDOM OF SPEECH which means people may strongly disagree with each other's comments, philosophy, on a variety of subjects etc.. This is still America and we still have a Bill of Rights and Constitution which means DUE PROCESS in a courtroom is IN ORDER for Sterling. Further, a $2 billion asset cannot be taken away like candy from a disobedient child because some people with different color skin have their feelings hurt by some insensitive comments.

I don't blame him for ordering the sale of the team. They stink anyways! Who needs the hassleRead More anyway. He's rich and older. Let some N's buy the team. Mostly their kind in the NBA anyway.

It is a bit of a quantum leap to equate a rich celebrity cheating on their wife with some other goodRead More looking female who is either a willing sex partner, or a gold digger looking for a pay day, with a rapist. Rape is usually about revenge, power, anger, payback, etc. Tiger Woods and the others had sex with a lot of other good looking women because they could. Apples and oranges. And just curious Bob the dentist, how are you such an expert on rape? You admit to never having been raped, yet you are so quick to opine that just because somebody finds her story to have some credibility issues, you assume they are chauvinistic, misogynistic, and uneducated? Or have we arrived at the point where any female who makes an allegation should automatically be believed?

Desert Rat....Let me clarify..I am not equating rape with high risk sex...I was only saying thatRead More many men, in the celebrity life and otherwise, will risk everything, their careers, etc., to have sex....be it consensual or non consensual. As far as assuming that the women is telling the truth...I have no idea....without more info it would be presumptuous of me to assume anything...it is true, however, that many many men get away with rape, mostly recently Jameis Winston...the evidence against is hard to refute.....I would guess that very few rapes get reported as a percentage of total rapes...the statistics bare this out...and even fewer rapes, still, are prosecuted...thus, not too much fear of any athlete being sent to jail for rape. Mike Tyson is the only one I can think of though I am sure there must be others....

Parents ruin sports..
sportsnut July 14, 2014 at 04:39 am
Alan I agree. Parents coach to get their kids and kids friends a leg up. Kids are choosen too basedRead More on parents and kids being friends. Take AAU and All-Stars and positions in each sport. Parents coach because they want their kid in prime positions, kids are friends with certain kids or because a family does not like someone but the kid has talent not playing. You need "out of area" coaches to come and determine if a kid is "that good" to be at the next level not "locals" whom coach because that is the only way the kid will get playing time.
CowDung July 23, 2014 at 07:20 am
sportsnut: Seems like a perfect opportunity for you to get involved in coaching... If nothingRead More else, becoming a coach will give you a voice in the league to lobby for equal playing time for all kids, and rotation of positions--particularly at the lower levels.

"I am not a racist!" It's the new McCarthyism. Anyone know where the ACLU has been in allRead More of this? If they are not willing to prevent people from being punished for their thoughts, then they need to stop receiving tax dollars for "protecting civil liberties".

Getting a sports team is not good for a city. "Sports" creates heroes out of people whoRead More are not hero material. Personally, I want my kids to respect people who are respectable.

Actually, no, I don't want the Rams back. Sports makes heroes of people who are not hero material.Read More And that is not good for society.

I would want them back but my feelings are based in nostalgia. My dad, who had season tickets forRead More years and years, took me to games throughout my childhood. We'd spent countless Sundays watching our favorite team as it journeyed through its ups and downs. The greatest issue I gave about any team setting up shop is the inevitable price gouging of the fans for tickets. If I confidentially knew that a family of four could get game tickets for that didn't amount to a hefty mortgage payment, I might support a team. But if all the tickets are going to wealthy corporate entities and the wealthiest buyers and scalpers, then forget about it!
