Anthony, I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I know you left your Asembly seat in orderRead More to care for her and spend some of the quality time you had left with her. That's what Italian sons do! Having an elderly Italian mother myself I know how important they are to the family. At 82 my mother still treats me as her favorite son (that is as long as the other two aren't around), and sometimes, no matter how old we get, we still get treated as a snot-nozed kid. That's what makes them so special. Joan and I wish you all the best, along with our thoughts and prayers. RIP Barbara. Joseph and Joan Payne

Once upon a time, when my mother-in-law was visiting from Detroit Michigan, she told my children andRead More I a story about visiting her own mother in a nursing home. Marion said, her mother would often say, "If i am not here when you get back, you know that I am gone". When hearing that phrase, I was sad. Marion said "Don't be". Memories and people that touch are lives never fade but remain strong in our hearts. Marion often joked that if I wasn't there when she got back, either I was out shopping or at a Casino. We would laugh and use that phrase to be humorous. Well unfortunately , my mother-in-law passed away 9/30/2010 (twenty years to the exact date of my own mother's death. So immediately, I thought of the phrase from long ago. Well just writing to you is a sign of love and grace that is past down from one generation to the next. People that come into our lives, do leave but not without leaving something for us to remember. So, Anthony, "if I'm not here when you get back...,I'm at Soboba Casino "

Anthony- First my condolences on your loss. But if it is any consolation, your mother had theRead More satisfaction of knowing that she raised a great son who turned out be a contributor to his community and constituents. No one will ever be able to take away the happy memories you had together in her time on earth.

Bill, she was an amazing woman, to say the least! And you're so right - NOTHING happens byRead More coincidence...I find it so appropriate that she was met by her husband, probably flowers in hand, to welcome her into Heaven! And you KNOW Robert was there to give her a hug as well!

I never met her, but I knew her wonderful youngest son, Bill. What an amazing woman! She reallyRead More lived a good life.

Dr. Yamanaka was my dentist when I was a kid, and I'm still cavity-free over 20 years later! His sonRead More Todd & I were classmates (we even made a student film together) and if I recall correctly, we were in Y Indian Guides together, too. Yamanaka was a great and gentle dentist. As you can glimpse from this coverage his passing is going to leave a huge hole in the fabric of the community because he was a great man, too, leaving a positive influence and raising some great kids. My sympathies go to his loved ones, his staff, and his patients.

Got the pleasure of meeting Huell at a UC Davis fund raiser. He was very nice and so funny. We haveRead More a picture we took with him and also he signed a t-shirt we have framed. Almost all our trips are because of him. He helped us learn and love California. RIP Huell.

Wow, Huell is so cool. So sad to hear the tragic news, he'll be greatly missed. There will never beRead More anybody as cool as Huell. I hope KCET will keep playing reruns.

One of our family treasures. My daughter, Molly, was unimpressed, however, and did a greatRead More impersonation of his "Hah, Ahm Hoowell Howser, etc." which in turn became a special memory for me. We promise ourselves to visit at least one of his special places.

I lived in the Glendale/Montrose/La Canada/Shadow Hills areas until 2005 and then moved to Dallas,Read More TX. I discovered Fiona's way back in the 70's and stopped by off and on over the years both in Glendale and later up in Montrose. I have many objects in my house from her store, and wonderful memories of her and positive, inspiring attitude. Our last visit to the area was in 2009 and she was as cheerful as ever and asked me to keep in touch.....this year in response to my Christmas card her son sent a note telling me of her passing. She will be missed!

My sister stumbled on Fiona's five or six years ago just before Halloween. I was living inRead More Portland, OR at the time and my sister mailed tea towels in a bag that Fiona had decorated with a hand drawn pumpkin! I moved to Ventura about three years ago and had the pleasure of meeting Fiona and visiting the shop quite often. A note which I received from her late last summer said she already was getting the shop in order for autumn and Halloween as she so loved pumpkins. Fiona's was magical and to have been in the presence of Fiona herself has blessed and enriched my life.

I met Fiona in her shop in the 1970s, while working at Larry Moss Landscape Architect, when hisRead More office was on Verdugo Rd. It was wonderful to take a lunch break, browsing in her shop but mostly getting to know her and feeling warmed by her genuine affection and joy in life. Along with Jane Humphrey's Once Upon A Time, then also located on Verdugo, I found sweet community and refreshment. So glad that I found my way back to Fiona's shop last October, purchased some tea towels for gifts, sipped cider and shared some thoughts and memories. Fiona will live on forever.

Very sad. My condolences to the family. I think about the time I nearly lost my life on that roadRead More 25 years ago, when I was in my 20's. Came around a corner and found 3 cafe racers racing. 2 of them in the wrong lane approaching head on. I swerved and lost control and went over the side about 150 ft. Car (85 Honda CRX) stayed right side up and I walked away un harmed. The next day I had to hire a crane to get my car out and the driver told me some horrific stories of what he'd witnessed on that road. A very dangerous road, especially on the weekend.

I'll miss you Andrew. You made the days at work so much better with all the things we joked aboutRead More and talked about. From your friend, Jason.

Very moving and emotional service. If Drew only knew how many people cared about him, his family andRead More his community. Important words spoken by Mr Leone towards the end of the service stating how important it is we take care of one another in our beautiful Crescenta Valley. I for one have been moved, even changed by this event. I am guessing it would bring much comfort to the Ferraro family for good things to come from this tragedy like tolerance and forgiveness towards each other.

Norbert was the key to our ability to build the Shell Car Wash by his unselfishness in selling off aRead More portion of his town center property to us. His price was not cheap...probably double the going rate at the time, but the potential income was greater than the cost. It was a win-win. Bill Koury
