Descanso Gardens was founded by E. Manchester Boddy, owner of the Los Angeles Daily News, in 1938. It sits on 160 acres of woodlands and gardens and was once the home of Boddy, his wife, and their sons. Now owned by the County of Los Angeles, this venue is home to many horticultural marvels. General Admission is only $8.00 and allows patrons access to all areas of the gardens. It offers 45-minute and 90-minute walking tours where visitors can explore the Camellia Forest, International Rosarium, California Garden, Japanese Garden, and Lilac Garden. Stroll through the grounds at your own pace and then visit the courtyard cafe and gift shop, or bring your own picnic and enjoy a rest at the picnic area under the trees. During the summer, Descano Gardens offers live music on Cool Jazz Thursdays.
