Patch Needed

The view from here got a little more exposed last week, when high winds tore the shingles and vapor barrier off the roof at Chilao School.  The school is located in the heart of the Angeles National Forest and operated by the non profit group Redbird.  In service today as an outdoor education center, Chilao School used to be Chilao Mountain School, owned and operated b La Canada Unified School District.

The portion of roof that needs to be replaced is 85 feet long and 18 feet wide...not small. That's more roof than Redbird has the funds to purchase materials for.  With the camping/hiking/outdoor season under way, and a list of events already on the books, roof repairs can't be put off.  If you have roofing materials you can donate, we need "tar paper" (vapor barrier may be the more correct term), long shingles strips (any color)  and roofing nails.  Staples  as a means of securing roofing materials are a bad idea in this locale.

Volunteers have already come forward to help with the labor.  If you'd like to help us get the old roof off, get a new one put on, or If help us purchase some of those materials, your assistance is appreciated, welcome and needed. Redbird is a 501(c)(3) non profit association, celebrating 20 years of service to the grater southern California area and Native American reservations in South Dakota in 2014. We accept donations via check, through Paypal (where you will automatically get a donation receipt), and we are members of eBay's Giving Works, eScrip, and Good.  Potential donors can review our financial records for free on Guidestar.org or request them directly from us via email.  We have a website, email address, mailing address, land base in the Angeles, and plenty of virtual real estate on Facebook.
