Annual Memorial Day Weekend Festivities Start Friday

will be abuzz this Memorial Day weekend. 

La Cañada's 39th annual Fiesta Days celebration kicks off Friday with a bridge tournament at the , followed by a community breakfast, sponsored by the La Cañada Kiwanis, in the park Saturday morning. The afternoon brings a vintage car show and on Saturday night, bundle up on a blanket for a nightime showing of "Puss in Boots.''

Enjoy some down-home barbecue Sunday while listening to the jazz band, followed by a fireworks display. 

Monday morning brings the 5k/10k run, followed by a memorial service in Memorial Park, a parade down Foothill Boulevard and a slew of events for kids, such as face painting, a petting zoo and bounce houses. There will be a number of booths set up in the park, including Patch's, manned by yours truly, so definitely stop by and say hi! 

The weekend wraps with the first of the weekly summer installments of Music in the Park. Dig out your dancing shoes to groove to Captain Cardiac. 

The annual celebration, hosted by the La Canada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce & Community Association, was founded in 1973 to celebrate the Spanish-heritage of the community during the week of Cinco de Mayo. Over time, it moved to the end of May and has grown into an all-encompassing community celebration.
