LCHS Places in Top 3 at John Marrow/Beverly Hills Invitational

The Spartans boys squad takes second, while the girls team finishes third.

The La Canada girls and boys swim teams placed a respectable third and second at last Friday’s John Marrow/Beverly Hills Invitational. Sarah Olson led the Spartans with victories in the 50-yard freestyle (25.09 seconds) and 100-yard free (54.57). Katy Campbell won the 200-yard free (1:53.60) and place second in the 500 free, while Kenzie Heaton won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.35) and finished third in the 50 free.

Sammy Campbell finished fifth in the 500 free, and sixth 100-yard backstroke. Other consolation finalists included Rita Neat (200 free and 100 breast, Morgan Harrick (200 individual medley and 100 butterfly), Caitlyn Seto (200 IM and 100 back), Kristine Seulymezian (100 fly and 500 free) and Michelle Varavetto (500 free). The 200-yard freestyle and medley relay teams of Olson, Heaton and the Campbell sisters also recorded first and second place times respectively, while Karolina Dudek, Harrick, Seuylmezian and Neat placed eighth in the 4x100 free relay.

The boys team was led by Christian Renfro’s school record time in the 200-yard free
(1:40.56), and his second place finish in the 100 free. Bo Mattix won the 100 Back (53.58) and took second in the 100 fly. Matt Myers was third in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 fly. Garrett Chin finished second in the 200 IM and 500 free, while Brandon Nguyen was third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 Breast.  Brad Cavanaugh placed seventh in the 200 free and 10th in the 500 free. Consolation finalists also included Shane Bell and David Belcher. The 200 free relay team of Myers, Belcher, Matix & Renfro recorded a first place time, while second place relay finishes were tallied in the 200 medley (Mattix, Chin, Nguyen and Myers), and the 4x100 free relays (Belcher, Chin, Nguyen and Renfro).
