Golf Tournament to Offset Park Budget Cuts

Budget cuts for Glendale parks, including La Crescenta's Deukmejian, prompts a local fundraiser to save area parks. The city will host its first golf championship on Aug. 22 at Scholl Canyon Golf Club.

in nextdoor La Crescenta is facing budget cuts.

Now, locals are banding together to help raise funds for the Glendale Parks and Open Space Foundation in a round of golf. The Inaugural Glendale City Golf Championship will be held on Aug. 22 at Scholl Canyon Golf Club.

With La Crescenta's own wilderness location losing funding, it's important to raise money and offset some of the cuts, said Rick Dinger of , a member of Oakmont Country Club and member of the Community Outreach Committee for Glendale Parks and Open Space Foundation.

The event is open to all amateur golfers and costs $75. All proceeds benefit the Glendale Parks and Open Space Foundation, which maintain local parks and spaces throughout Glendale, including Montrose and La Crescenta.

The second round will be held at Oakmont Country Club on Aug. 27.

Organizers include the National Board for the Independent Insurance Agents of America; Scholl Canyon Golf Club - the only public golf course in Glendale; Oakmont Country Club and Crescenta Valley Insurance.
