Girls Swimming: Spartans Eke Out Win Over Tologs

La Cañada's Katy Campbell, Kenzie Heaton and Sarah Olson lead Spartans to non-league win.

First-year coach Tiffany Quash led the La Cañada girls team to a tight 89-81 victory over Flintridge Sacred Heart on Monday afternoon at the La Cañada home pool.

The Spartans were led by veterans Katy Campbell, Kenzie Heaton and Sarah Olson. Campbell recorded automatic CIF qualifying times while winning the 200 and 500 yard freestyles with times of 1 minute, 52.75 seconds and 4:58.65.

The Spartans and Tologs were tied heading into the final individual race — the 100 yard breaststroke — which Heaton won to put La Cañada ahead.

Olson took the in the 50 and 100 yard  freestyle races, with an automatic CIF time in the 50 free (24.87) and a consideration time of 54.72 in the 100 free. Freshman Sammy Campbell was second in the 100 yard backstroke. The Spartans also won both freestyle relays with the Campbell sisters, Heaton, Olson and Karolina Dudek swimming strong legs. Rita Neat and Morgan Harrick also swam legs in the 200-yard medley relay for a key second place finish.
