LCHS Students to Intern with Chamber of Commerce and Community Association for Second Year

With the internship program, students will have opportunity to work with local businesses and organizations as well as obtain school elective credit

The La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Association recently announced the acceptance of applications from La Cañada High School (LCHS) students. The program, for current sophomores and juniors, was started in 2011. The internship program will give students the opportunity work with local businesses and organizations.

The internship program is an effort by the Chamber of Commerce to support the community’s students as well as allow them to have a better understanding of the local government and the business community. The Chamber of Commerce hopes that the program will allow students to gain experience in career opportunities and in industries, like real estate and health care that, they would not have considered before. A presentation by Mr. Joel Peterson, the past president of the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Governing Board of the La Cañada Unified School District, was held this past week to explain the program in detail.

LCHS counselor Sally Spangler acts as liaison for the program and past internship sites include the Allen Lund Company, Sport Chalet, Verdugo Hills Hospital, and the City of La Cañada Flintridge. The program has an added benefit of assisting agency partnerships and students have the opportunity to gain credit for elective courses. The interns will work five hours a day, four days a week, six weeks during the summer months.
