La Cañada Schools Start With Some New Faces

La Cañada children returned to school Tuesday, some meeting new teachers and principals. La Cañada Elementary welcomed Christine Castillo and La Cañada High School welcomed Ian McFeat.

Blue and gold balloons swayed in the morning breeze Tuesday, awaiting the arrival of back-to-school families, as La Cañada Unified School District began a new year.

Many excitedly drove and some walked to La Cañada Elementary. Everyone was eager to meet their new teachers, see old friends and meet some new ones. Most of all, the families wanted to meet the new principal, Christine Castillo.

Growing up in the Los Angeles area, Castillo graduated from Pomona College with a B.A. in Anthropology. Later she earned her Masters Degree and principal certification at the University of Washington's Danforth program. After living up in the Pacific Northwest for many years, Castillo said she is happy to be back in Southern California.
