Here's another idea to enhance your teen's summer (and dossier): Grammy Camp

Still looking for a way your teens may hone their talents this summer?

Grammy Camp, a residential music industry program held in Los Angeles and New York, is accepting applications from high school students through Thursday, said Christina Cassidy, communications manager for the Grammy Foundation.

Students may ask for an extension to submit the full application, as long as they complete the online application by Thursday, Cassidy said.

From July 9-18, selected high school students will participiate in an interactive, 10-day residential music program at the USC Thornton School of Music. Students will sleep in the dorms and eat in the campus cafeteria. The program focuses on all aspects of commercial music.

"This is truly one of the most extraordinary summer music camps,'' Cassidy said, pointed out that teens get to work with Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated artists and industry professionals.

These professionals instruct students on six music career tracks: audio engineering; concert promotion/production; electronic music production; music journalism and songwriting. The camp also features a performance track for bass, drums, guitar, keyboard, vocal, and winds & strings.

Each track culminates in media projects, CD recordings and/or showcase performances.

The New York camp runs from Aug. 2-8 and costs $1,800. LA's camp runs $2,200, but there is a discount for attending both: $3,500. Financial assistance is available and in past years 70 percent of those who applied for assistance received it, Cassidy said.
