Kiwanis Honors LCE 'Terrific Kids'

Read mini profiles of each student awarded the honor by La Cañada Kiwanis.

Six students from La Cañada Elementary School were treated to lunch and honored by the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada recently at the regular meeting of the club, held at Descanso Gardens Van de Kamp Hall.

Shown in the above photos are, left to right:

Julia Powers, a member of the All-Star Softball Team who won the Junior Championship. Julia likes reading adventure books and swims on the Rose Bowl Aquatic Team.

John Lytle, an outstanding student with a 4.0 GPA and a member of the LCE Student Council. He is a member of the GATE program.

Mallory Wilkenson, is new to LCE and is enjoying making new friends. She is known for her sense of humor. She is taking acting lessons and has played violin for six years.

Melody Wu came to LCF from Taiwan and Hong Kong and enjoys playing badminton. She is an avid reader and loves dogs and horses.

Tyler Reese, a member of the Activities Committee at LCE has recently performed in “Annie.'' He is a Boy Scout and plays baseball, soccer and basketball. He is an avid reader, and likes board and video games.

Juan Grases, another swimmer is also a member of the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center and trains six days a week. The favorite stroke of this future Olympian is the backstroke. He enjoys reading adventure books.

Terrific Kids Kiwanis leader Pat Flynn awarded each student a special certificate and their parents were given bumper stickers that tell the world that their children are “Terrific Kids.'' Mr. Flynn is pictured on the right of the students. As a Kiwanian, Flynn devotes time to the Terrific Kids Program and to leading a group that reads books to inner city students.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.
