Essays Net St. Bede Students Scholarships

La Cañada's Italian Catholic Federation Branch 374 awarded scholarships to three graduates from St. Bede the Venerable. The students' essays focused on religion, charity and heritage.

Three graduates wrote their way into some scholarships recently, with a nod from La Cañada's Italian Catholic Federation Branch 374.

The non-profit awarded Pricilla Moreno and Gabriella Lopez $250 each, while giving Shannon Rodick $100, as the top three essayists in the IFC's annual competition.

Lopez and Moreno will attend in the fall, while Rodick will head to Immacualte Heart High School in Los Angeles.

The essay contest was based upon a theme with topics consistent with the goals of ICF which include its focus on religion, charity and heritage. Topics students were given included: A description of the values and benefits of a Catholic education; How is ethnic heritage an important part of your cultural and/or personal life; and How do acts of service benefit your school. Church or community?

A committee of branch members reviewed all of the essays submitted and selected the submissions of the three students. The branch awards these scholarship each year to worthy elementary school graduates, and also provides a scholarship to a local high school graduate as well.
