A county supervisor allocated $30,000 today to La Canada Flintridge to help pay for a long-awaited pocket park at the end of a hiking trail.
Supervisor Michael Antonovich offered the funds, available under the Safe Neighborhood Parks Proposition.
Dubbed the Ultimate Destination Point Project, the rest area at the end of a local .62-mile hiking trail on the upper slopes of Cherry Canyon was championed by Liz Blackwelder.
Blackwelder, a founding member of the La Canada Flintridge Trails Council, has been a dedicated trail advocate for more than 40 years and donated $35,000 of her own money to the project, according to Antonovich.
Located adjacent to 1247 Flintridge Ave., the area has a 360-degree view of the San Gabriel Mountains, Cherry Canyon and La Canada Flintridge.
With a total cost of $136,000, it is planned to include a shady rest area for hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders with native oak trees, a water fountain for trail users and a water bubbler for horses.
