Meeting Thursday on Environmental Impacts of Hahamongna Project

The meeting Thursday will focus on plans to build a sports field and trail, as well as do habitat restoration work in Hahamongna Watershed Park.

The city of Pasadena will host two meetings this week on sports field, trail improvements and habitat restoration project planned for the Hahamongna Watershed Park.

The meetings will be on Thursday and Saturday and are part of the public input sessions required by the state during the environmental study portion of the project.

Though the park is immediately adjacent to La Cañada Flintridge on the westside and Altadena on the eastside, the City of Pasadena owns the bulk of the land in the park.

The plan for Hahamongna is comprised of four major projects: Sycamore Grove Field, a new sports field on the Westside of the park, the Westside Perimeter Trail, improvements for Berkshire Creek, and basin habitat restoration along the edge of the Devil’s Gate basin.

The most discussed portion of the project has been the plan to create a new multipurpose sports field, a project that has concerned local community members who would prefer to see the park remain as a natural area.

In anticipation of the meeting, the city has also released a draft environmental study, which can be viewed on right.  The report contains potential environmetal impacts of the project, which include removal of non-native trees, impacts on potential archeological resources and temporary effects on riparian habitat from construction.

Also on right is a presentation from a previous information meeting that was held in June.

Thursday's meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Fellowship Hall, at 960 East Walnut Avenue.  Saturday's is the same location, but at 10 a.m.
