La Cañada High School students Justin Lee, 16 and Andrew Demirjian, 17, heard about the administrators' impending departure during third period Wednesday.
Lee has known Luzak since he was in seventh grade and she was principal for La Cañada 7/8. The students describe Luzak as helpful and kind, but were upset with her during the 2010-11 school year when she cut the popular World Cultures Academy, an interdisciplinary combination of English and history for sophomores. The students protested in front of the school, wearing T-shirts and demanding the school bring back the program for 2011-12.
