Is Banning Booze Sales at LCF Stores After Midnight a 'Solution in Search of a Problem'?

At least one city councilman expresses skepticism at the proposed ordinance. What do you think?

La Cañada Flintridge may move forward with an ordinance that would ban stores in the city from selling alcohol past midnight.

The ordinance would not ban sales at restaurants, so the ordinance at the moment would only impact one business, which is the 7-Eleven on Foothill Boulevard near Alta Canyada Road, according to the La Cañada Sun.

At least one city councilman expressed skepticism at the proposed ordinance.

“For me, this proposed ordinance continues to be a solution in search of a problem,” Councilman Donald Voss said during Monday’s City Council meeting, according to the Sun.

A staff report stated that a total of seven alcohol-related incidents have occurred in the city after midnight over the past two years. The data led Voss to conclude it showed there was no problem, while Mayor Laura Olhasso stated the driving-under-the-influence reports that occurred near the store showed there was a problem, according to the Sun.

What do you think? Is the ordinance addressing a problem, or is it a solution in search of a problem? Tell us in the comments.
