UPDATED Election Results: Gatto, Schiff, Krikorian Maintain Leads

Updated Wednesday: With 100 percent of precincts reporting, incumbent Assemblyman Mike Gatto surpassed challenger Greg Krikorian by 4,797 votes, pulling in 56.3 percent of the vote. 

"I am tremendously honored by the voters continued faith in me,'' Gatto said via email Wednesday. "I also look forward to continuing to get to know the voters in the new parts of the district.

"The state faces many challenges right now, and I am humbled by the trust and responsibility that the voters placed in me to address those challenges,'' he said.

Challenger Greg Krikorian: 44 percent

Updated as of 11:30 p.m: 

With less than 30 percent of precincts reporting, incumbent Mike Gatto has snagged 10,594 votes, or 53.2 percent, while challenger Greg Krikorian is nipping at his heels with 46.8 percent, or 9,328 votes.

Prop 29, Tobacco tax: 50.6 percent yes, 49.4 percent no.

28th District, U.S. Representative 

Incumbent acquired 58.5 percent, garnering 12,556 votes. His closest challenger, Phil Jennerjahn, earned 17.9 percent, with 3,852 votes. These statistics reflect 21 of 378 precincts reporting. How did other challengers fare? Click here. 

25th State Senate District

Incumbent Carol Liu has earned 50.9 percent with 18,445 votes, while challenger Gil Gonzales has brought in 43.3 percent with 15,667 votes. These results: 53 of 578 precincts reporting.

Updated 8:25 p.m. With 9 of 240 precincts reporting, incumbent Assemblyman , D-Silver Lake, shows a slight lead over challenger with 52.6 percent of the vote, according to the California Secretary of State website

Krikorian, the Republican challenger in the 43rd State Assembly District, earned 47.4 percent, or 6,775 votes, to Gatto's 7,527. These numbers constitute 3.8 percent of the precincts reporting. 

25th State Senate District

Incumbent Carol Liu has earned 52.8 percent of the vote, while challenger Gil Gonzales has brought in 41.7 percent with 50 of 578 precincts reporting

28th District, U.S. Representative 

Incumbent acquired 58.6 percent of the vote with his closest challenger, Phil Jennerjahn, having earned 18 percent, with 17 of 378 precincts reporting.  

State Ballot Initiatives

Prop 28: Limits on Legislators' Terms in Office -- 65.4 percent yes, with 10.3 percent of precincts reporting.

Prop 29: Tax on Cigarettes for Cancer Research -- 52 percent yes, with 10.3 percent of precincts reporting.

Earlier: Recently drawn redistricting maps place La Cañada in the 25th State Senate District, 28th Congressional District, and 43rd State Assembly District.

The top two vote-getters in the June 5 primary election will advance to the Nov. 6 general election regardless of party preference or whether one candidate receives a majority of votes in the primary. The election will mark the first major test of the state's "top two" primary system approved by California voters in 2010.
