Star LCF Athletes Honored by City Council

The Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy soccer team and the Flintridge Prep boys basketball team earn kudos for their respective CIF-Southern Section titles.

One city, three schools, four titles.

"It may be a statistic for the ages,'' La Cañada Flintridge Mayor Pro Tem Stephen Del Guercio said Monday night as awarded certificates to 's soccer team and the boys basketball team. While is the third school in the city to win a CIF-Southern Section title with their 1-0 victory Friday against Beaumont High School in the Division 5 championship game, the Spartans will receive council's public recognition at a future meeting. 

Del Guercio marveled at the number of distinguished young athletes in the community, who all the while excel in academics at the same time.

Flintridge Prep Coach Garrett Ohara reiterated the scholastic achievements of many of the graduating seniors who leave Prep to attend universities and colleges such as Harvard, Occidental and University of California at San Diego. The Rebels won the Div. 5AA title in March — the first CIF-SS boys basketball title in school history.

Also in March the LCHS boys basketball team won the 3AA title. And then the Tologs soccer team  kicked their way into the history books with the first divisional title in the team's 17-year history.
