UPDATE: Authorities Say 3 Bobcats Roam La Crescenta

People are urged to stay inside while authorities attempt to push three bobcats out of an area back yard.

UPDATE: Three bobcats are roaming La Crescenta while authorities aim to push them out, according to Sheriff's Sgt. Gary Ogurek of the Crescenta Valley Station.

"We understand it’s been three," Ogurek said. "They were on Pineridge, in the backyard of a resident’s home. It’s the area of La Crescenta where it says the sign 'Warning mountain lions have been seen in the area.'"

"The [bobcats] have been up there since the people have been up there..., Ogurek said. "Just keep pets inside and don’t let children go outside. You just have to be cautious. They are a predator."

7:13 p.m. Tuesday: Officials are using a helicopter to scare away bobcats wandering a La Crescenta neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The call came in about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near Pineridge Drive and Rosemont Avenue, said Deputy Rachel Whittendurg of the Crescenta Valley Station.

@Lisa - Thanks! We had to replace the mountain lion photo once we had confirmation that they were bobcats. The night they were out sheriff's deputies thought they were bobcats at first.

Somewhere I've got an old-timey photo of my grandfather on the porch of his home on a ranch in AZ, with a bobcat that he'd domesticated. I've also met a stranger in Griffith Park who also had a domesticated bobcat with him (some time ago...). Pax. Big cats are beautiful, but dangerous... ====

More to the point, there's a Mountain Lion with a GPS collar in Griffith Park right now; he apparently came from a family of Mountain Lions in the Malibu area. (How did he make the transit?) I also understand that there's been M. Lions in the Verdugos (Descanso gardens) in recent years. My son reported about 10 years ago that he'd seen a young M. Lion in my neighborhood (Shadow Hills) in the early morning.
