Scoutmaster Rescued Near Switzer Falls Area Saturday

A scoutmaster fell 20 feet onto a bed of rocks while leading his troop, according to authorities.

Some quick thinking from a Boy Scout troop helped Air-5 rescue a local scoutmaster who had fallen 20 feet onto a bed of rocks while leading the troop on a hike on Bear Canyon Trail, which is about two miles south of Switzer Falls in the Angeles National Forest, according to authorities.

The call came to Air-5 at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, and deputies said tracking down the scoutmaster became easier when his six-boy Scout troop swung a large tarp to alert the aircraft to their location. A rescue paramedic was lowered down, and the 50-year-old scoutmaster was flown to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
