Power Line Fell, Transformer Blew

Heavy winds knocked down a power line early Friday morning on Palm Drive.

Gusting winds knocked down a power line in the 4800 block of Palm Drive early Friday, said Sgt. Debra Herman of the .

Deputies had arrived to the power line when a transformer exploded, but no fire resulted from the explosion, she said.

"It's been tended to and there's no problem,'' she said.

Herman wasn't aware of power outages in the city. The Southern California Edison website shows one spot in La Cañada, at Orchard Lane and Rosebank Drive, with unplanned outages.

Company spokesman Paul Klein could not give specific numbers for La Cañada, indicating it was not an area hard hit. Througout the San Gabriel Valley, he said, the winds greatly affected Altadena, with 218 people without power as of 11 a.m. and 110 people still without power in San Gabriel.

Total outages for SoCal Edison's area number 5,516, he said.
