The boys were identified as Ryan Handlin, 12, and Marquis Handlin, 11. Sgt. Thomas Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department said investigators suspect the boys ran away because of family issues. They had been living with their father until his death, and have since been with their grandparents, which "appears ... was not the ideal situation," Lorenz said.

Ryan is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 90 pounds. He has light brown hair and was wearing a dark shirt and jeans. Marquis is 5 feet 1 inch tall, and also weighs 90 pounds. He has blond hair and was wearing a green shirt and jeans.
