Man's Body Discovered in Angeles National Forest

Investigators working to determine cause of death, which may be an accident, authorities said.

A hiker made a gruesome discovery early Saturday and found a man's body on a hiking trail north of JPL, authorities said.

The deceased man appears to be in his 20s. It is not known how long the body may have been there and his death appears to be a hiking accident, said Sergeant Cynthia Gonzales of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station.

A hiker made the discovery around 7:40 a.m. The person then hiked out and contacted authorities, Gonzales said.

Sheriff's investigators are still on scene and as of 10:37a.m. are preparing to move the body out. Authorities may transport the body by helicopter. The copter is parked along an area on Angeles Crest Highway, according to scanner reports.
