LCF Pharmacy Clerk Catches Counterfeit Bill

A man who attempted to pass a counterfeit bill at the Flintridge Pharmacy escaped a helicopter search Thursday.

Something just didn't look right with the $100 bill.

It had the watermark, and a visible line when held to the light, but something was off, a employee told the .

Turns out the Benjamin was fake, and when the customer got antsy waiting, he ran out the door, but eluded the patrol helicopter, CV Sgt. Debra Herman said Friday.

"The helicopter wasn't busy, it happened to be in our area, so it searched for the suspect,'' she said, noting it swept the Foothill Boulevard and Gould Avenue area just after 3 p.m. to no avail.

Herman was not aware of any similar counterfeit incidents recently in the Crescenta Valley area.

Pharmacy clerk Alejandra Cruz told the Valley Sun the man, who appeared to be in his 30s, tried to purchase a gift bag and a nail fungus product. Another employee, who has worked with money, spotted the $100 bill as fake, so the employees said they'd have to go and fetch change, the Valley Sun reported.

The man eventually ran out of the store and a call was made to the , who dispatched deputies immediately.
