How About a Day at the Track?

If you like horses, Art Deco architecture and raising money for nonprofits, take a ride out to Arcadia Sunday and place your bets on the .

Both the chamber and the Support Group are hosting the Crescenta Valley Day at the Races at Santa Anita Park, 285 W. Huntington Dr., Arcadia 91007. Tickets to the fund-raiser need to be purchased by 2 p.m. Friday.

Gates open at 11 a.m., and the first of nine races is 12:30 p.m. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for anyone under 18 years old. Tickets cover nine thoroughbread races, parking, the official racing program, BBQ lunch, soft drinks and expert handicapping advice.

There will also be a raffle and silent auction. Proceeds benefit both the CV Chamber and CV Sheriff's Support Group, a group that raises money for the sheriff's station. Recently, the group donated several thousand dollars to upgrades in the jail area, said Capt. Dave Silversparre, who called the group invaluable to the station.
