Dead Hiker Found in Angeles National Forest near Inspiration Point

The preliminary cause of death is trauma from a fall from the steep trail, authorities say.

A hiker today found a man's body in a ravine below the trail leading to Inspiration Point in the Angeles National Forest near Altadena, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said.

A helicopter team arrived at the scene at about 1:20 p.m. Sunday, pronounced the man dead and airlifted the body to Farnsworth Park, in Altadena, where he was examined by a member of the coroner's office, according to the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

The preliminary cause of death was trauma from a fall from the steep trail, authorities said.

The Los Angeles resident's name has not yet been released, pending notification of kin.

On Aug. 16, a hiker was also found dead near Mt. Lukens above La Crescenta. The cause of death of 66-year-old San Gabriel man is still unknown.
