Crime Blotter: Slippery Thieves Snatch Oil

Slippery Oil Thieves
An 41 year-old male employee of reported that sometime between 11 pm Friday, Feb. 18 and 7 am Saturday, Feb. 19, a back patio and storage area of the restaurant was broken into. Despite being surrounded by a five-foot high wooden fence, the area was not secured or locked. Missing were a sewer drain snake and vacuum valued at $1,000 total, as well as eight, 5-gallon containers of cooking oil worth $27 each.

Smash and Grab
On Feb. 17. a 43-year old male reported that sometime between 1 am and 7 am, his Toyota Avalon, parked in front of his residence on the 300 block of Mellow Lane, was broken into and vandalized.

Claiming to have locked the car and set its alarm, the victim said he didn't hear anything unusual during the night, but awoke to find glass in the street and the driver’s rear window of his vehicle shattered.
While thieves made off with items including a $1500 camera and lens, a Garmin GPS valued at $200, clothing, sunglasses, and a phone system, they failed to discover an envelope containing cash hidden in the car’s center console.
Nabbed Purse
A 60-year old woman appeared at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station on Feb. 18 to report that her purse, containing five credit cards and $95 in cash, had been taken from a bench at a pilates studio A US Postal Service employee later found the empty purse inside a mail collection box.
Tire Trouble
According to the report of a 53-year old man, two tires of his Chrysler PT Cruiser were slashed while it was parked behind in the 1000 block of Foothill Blvd. The victim believed the vandalism happened sometime over the weekend, reporting the $200 worth of damage on Monday, Feb. 21 when he returned to work and discovered the damage.
Unattended Purse Picked
On Feb. 21 at 6:15 pm, a woman reported to deputies that her purse had been stolen from her car while it was parked, for just one hour, at the 4400 Chevy Chase Drive.
The Honda Odyssey Van had been left unlocked, hence, its alarm system did not activate. There were no signs of damage to the vehicle, but the purse, left between the passenger and driver’s seat, was gone when the victim returned to her car. The purse and its contents were valued at $500.
