Crime Blotter: Dog Robbery Foiled

The following incidents were reported to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

On June 26, a 63-year-old female contacted the police regarding an attempted robbery at the at 2160 Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada.

The lady had walked her dog to the southern parking lot area of Joann Fabrics when a man walked out of the bushes behind her. He grabbed her neck and angrily said, “Give me your dog.”

She pushed him away from her and struck him with her hands. He attempted to pull the dog’s leash out of her hand and grab her purse. The man then attempted to forcefully pull the dog’s leash and her purse from the lady, but she kicked him and he fled out of view. After the incident, she drove to the  at 1930 Foothill Boulevard and called 911.

Robber Leaves with $3,100 in Jewelry

A 31-year-old La Cañada male reported a burglary at the 400 block of Knight Way in La Cañada on July 2. An unidentified person went into his locked house and stole $3,100 in jewelry. The man had arrived home and noticed that the backdoor to the house was open. As he walked through the house, he noticed that all the room doors were open when they are normally closed. He then discovered that his closet doors and drawers ransacked. Entry and exit to the home appears to have been the back door, where two pry marks were found.

Cannabis Possession at Local Country Club

On June 30, 22-year-old Glendale resident Julio Jose Morales allegedly was found in possession of concentrated cannabis at the parking lot at 5500 Godbey Drive in La Cañada Flintridge. During a patrol check, Morales was discovered with a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana emitting from his person, police said. Upon closer examination, a clear plastic container of cannabis was discovered in his car. Morales admitted that the cannabis was his and stated that he used the drug for medicinal use for an old injury. He was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession at Crescenta Valley Sheriffs Station.

Wallet Taken at Panera Bread

A wallet that held a driver’s license, bank cards, and insurance cards were taken from a 66-year-old female on June 26 at the at 990 Town Center Drive in La Cañada. After lunch at Panera Bread, she returned to work and found that her wallet, with $100 in cash and miscellaneous cards, was missing. She went back to the restaurant, but wasn’t able to find her wallet. The woman called her bank to notify the company that her bank cards were stolen, asking the company to place a hold on the account. She later checked her account balance and discovered that the card had been used at a CVS Pharmacy in Montrose to make a purchase for $923.08. She stated that she didn’t remember anyone standing close to her nor bumping into her when she was at the restaurant.
