Crime Blotter: Mail Thieves Arrested, $13,000 in Tools Taken

The following incidents were reported to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

3 Arrested in Multiple Mail Thefts

Maria Alcazar, 31, of San Gabriel, Kevin Konkler, 26, of Burbank and Douglas Rodriguez, 25, of Pacoima were arrested May 5 on suspicion of stealing mail.

A police officer discovered the suspects in the 1100 block of Foothill Boulevard. One was driving a red car, while the two others were running alongside it and taking mail from the mailboxes on the street, according to the police report. Credit cards, photocopies of California identification cards and social security cards, as well as miscellaneous mail were found in their possession. Items Totaling $13,000 Taken from Trailer

A 42-year-old La Cañada man told the police on May 3 that someone had broken into his locked trailer and storage containers by cutting the hinges off the locks. The trailer and storage containers were located near Newcomb’s Ranch Restaurant on Angeles Crest Highway. The container and trailer had held his generator welder, jackhammer, blower, pressure washer, as well as various saws and tools that were valued at $13,020.00.

Robbery at Home Under Renovations

On May 2, a 35-year-old Valencia man reported a burglary in the 5200 block of La Cañada Boulevard. He went to go check on construction work that was being done on his house and found that his barbeque grill, a side grill, a white refrigerator, a wooden cabinet, and a kitchen sink had been stolen. The items, worth a total of $2,316, were last seen in the garage. The man is not currently living at the house, as it’s been renovated, but noted that the back door to the garage was locked.

Apple iMac Pro, Gold Coins, and Cash Stolen

A burglary in the 1400 block of Flanders Road in La Cañada was reported on May 4 by a 54-year-old resident. When she had arrived home, she had found that her living room, dining room, and bedroom had been ransacked. U.S. currency totaling $950, 67 gold coins, miscellaneous china and silverware, as well as an Apple iMac Pro valued at $2,500 were stolen. The robber entered by smashing a window in the master bathroom.

Driving with a Suspended License

On May 6, a 21-year-old man in a 1991 Acura was pulled over at 4900 Angeles Crest Highway in La Cañada. He was originally pulled over because his vehicle was too low. When asked for his driver’s license, the driver allegedly stated, “Sir, all I have is identification, my license is suspended.”
