Crime Blotter: Burglars Nab $73K in Jewelry, Cash

The following incidents were reported to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Residential Burglary

A 42-year-old resident reported on Aug. 14 that unidentified suspects smashed a sliding glass door and stole $73,000 worth of jewelry, purses and cash from her home in the 500 block of Angeles Crest Highway. The burglary happened between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., according to a police report.

The burglars ransacked the house, but it appears all the stolen items were in the master bedroom.

Identity Theft

A La Cañada resident who lives in the 700 block of Highland Drive told police on Aug. 9 that she received an email from Paypal saying she had a negative balance on her line of credit. She never opened a Paypal account, nor did she authotirze anyone to, the police report states.

It appears the suspect opened an account with the victim's former residential address, her email, social security number and name. The account was oopened in October 2011.

Petty Theft

A 66-year-old woman who lives in the 4600 block of Beulah Drive reported to police on August 8 that someone stole her mail from her unlocked box. She had been waiting on a music CD and a check for $190. Neither arrived, but merchants assured her they sent the items.
