Crime Blotter: Bacon Burglary

The following reports were taken from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Crescenta Valley Station. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Six burglaries were reported in La Cañada Flintridge this week.

A residential burglary was reported in the 5200 block of Alta Canyada Road between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21. After entering the residence through an unlocked side door, the residence's housekeeper noted that all the Christmas presents in the living room were unwrapped.  The housekeeper proceeded to go upstairs and saw that the master bedroom had been ransacked, with clothes and jewelry dispersed throughout the room and uncooked chicken breasts left on the dresser drawers. The children's room had also been raided and there were uncooked strips of bacon on the rug. The kitchen was also in disarray, as half a package of uncooked bacon was left on the counter with a knife next to it. A Macbook Pro laptop, estimated at $3,000, was the only item reported missing from the residence,

The arrived at the residence and saw that pry marks had been left on first floor living room window. Police believe the unidentified suspect(s) entered the residence by prying open the bathroom window screen. According to reports, the suspect(s) cut a  phone wire in the electrical box underneath the bathroom window and left a 3.5 foot case by the living room window.

Between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, a victim noted that his unsecured "Rally 6.0 Tumbler" bicycle was stolen from the loading docks area of on Foothill Boulevard.

Between 10:20 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, a victim reported a professional lawnmower was stolen from his truck in the 4800 block of Camel Road. The victim noted that he had secured his Honda Professional Lawnmower to his truck with a lock and chain and believed the suspect removed the lawnmower with bolt cutters.

At 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, a resident in the 5100 block of Haskell Street reported that a '05 Acura MDX had been burglarized. The victim reported that the vehicle's rear window was shattered and an estimated $4,020 in items were missing. Stolen items include two laptops, 60 boxes of chocolate and miscellaneous plumping fixtures.

At 10:48 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Ralph's on Foothill Boulevard, a store employee noted that a suspect exited the store without paying for two reusable bags filled with an estimated $325 in Grey Goose Vodka. After running out of the store, a witness caught the suspect, who was sweating and out-of-breath in her backyard. The suspect claimed he had hopped the fence to escape a dog and had not stolen anything. Police located and arrested the suspect.

Between 7 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26, a resident in the 1900 block of Verdugo Boulevard reported that a '12 Lexus RX350 had been burglarized. The victim reported that an unidentified suspect entered the vehicle by an unknown means and removed the vehicle purchase contract.
