Body Found Near Angeles Crest Highway - Road Closed Due to Hazardous Chemicals

A portion of Angeles Crest Highway is closed, while authorities investigate and clean up the toxic chemicals.

The body of a man who apparently committed suicide was found Wednesday morning near Angeles Crest Highway at mile marker 29.55, according to the California Highway Patrol and the sheriff's department.

It appears the man may have inhaled a mixture of chemicals which are still on the scene, to which a hazardous-materials team is responding, said Lt. Angela Shepherd of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station.

Angeles Crest Highway, in the Angeles National Forest, from the first turnout to Big Tujunga Canyon is closed, so authorities can contain the chemicals, and deputies investigating the incident won't be exposed, she said. The road will be closed for a while so authorities can hose down the area and clean it.
