Crime Blotter: $3,900 Worth of Tools Taken From Descanso Gardens

The following incidents were reported to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Tools Disappear From Descanso Gardens

An employee of Descanso Gardens at 1418 Descanso Drive reported a grand theft on May 22. Robber(s) broke through the company storage room and stole several tools, amounting to $3,900. A security chain and chain link were found to have been cut by bolt cutters. The front door also appeared to be gouged with a prying tool and a metal latch had been cut. The workshop had been ransacked with tool boxes and cabinet doors left open. The property was previously burglarized in January 2011.

On May 22, a La Cañada female notified the police regarding petty theft and vandalism at the Regal Entertainment Group United Artists Theater at 1919 Verdugo Boulevard in La Cañada. A fire extinguisher, valued at $200, was found missing from one of the auditoriums. Several seats in the same room were found damaged; the cost of the damaged seats amounts to $500.

A male La Cañada Flintridge resident reported a petty theft to the police on May 23. The man stated that two packages had been stolen from the front of his house on the 400 block of Meadowview Drive. The packages had contained three bottles of prescription medication and Adidas soccer shoes that were worth $100.

Mail Reported as Missing

On May 23, a 53-year-old La Cañada male told the police that there was an incident of petty theft at his house on the 4700 block of Palm Drive in La Cañada Flintridge. The man said that he had left an envelope with a check of $612 in the mailbox and raised the flag to indicate that there was outgoing mail in the mailbox. However, when he returned a day later to place another envelope, he saw that the flag was still up but the original envelope was missing. The mailbox faces the street at the end of the driveway and can be accessible by anyone as it doesn’t have a lock.

Vandalism of Chain-Link Fence

A chain that held a chain-link gate and the green mesh attached to the chain-link fence were found cut by a pair of bolt cutters and a box cutter on May 24. The owner of ARK Construction on the 4300 block of Chevy Chase Drive in La Cañada Flintridge reported the crime and believed that the robber(s) was trying to gain access to steal a utility trailer that was parked on the property inside the gate.
