Hahamongna: here come the bulldozers

The L.A. County Department of Public Works is holding three community meetings, beginning tonight, Nov. 6. They are presenting the environmental impact report for the immense reservoir clearing project at Hahamongna Watershed Park. How immense? 200,000 trips by the big, double-trailer dirt hauling trucks over the course of five years. And when they're done, there will be a permanent, naked-dirt scar 50 to 100 acres in size extending half a mile back from the dam. If your kids ever went to Tom Sawyer camps; if you ever criscrossed the basin with the Rose Bowl Riders; if you have hiked or birded or just hung out in the rich habitat in that basin - it's all going away, forever.
