CHP Investigating Friday Crash on Angeles Crest
Rescue teams were unable to locate anyone from the crashed vehicle Friday afternoon.
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating a solo crash in which a car plunged about 200 feet down a ravine off of Angeles Crest Highway.
Authorities were unable to find any victim of the crash.
Los Angeles County Fire Fighters, and rescue helicopters, along with Montrose Search and Rescue, conducted a grid-by-grid search and used infrared cameras to locate a possible victim, initially described by a reported witness as a white male adult in a white shirt, according to Officer Anthony White of the CHP. However, authorities were unable to confirm the description of the possible victim.
The crash happened before 5:30 p.m.
Authorities reportedly checked Huntington Memorial Hospital to see if the crash victim might have shown up there, but there was no word if anyone was found.
Angeles Crest was shut down by the CHP for two hours while the rescue effort was underway near mile marker 27. A U.S. Forestry worker reportedly observed the vehicle down the ravine and notified the , according to Mike Parker of the Sheriff's Department.
Local media obtained the license plate number of the crashed vehicle and reportedly located the home of the owner in La Crescenta, according to KCAL9 and CBS2 news. No one was reportedly at the home when reporters arrived.
