Blog: Blood Drive A Success At Sport Chalet

Leah, Logan and Tristan Dilbeck lined up to give blood earlier this week inside Sport Chalet in honor of the two employees that are hospitalized with severe burns, due to a gas explosion.

I asked a few friends if they were going to the Blood Drive at Sport Chalet earlier this week. My friend Leah Dilbeck immediately said "yes." She even called her 18-year-old-son, Logan and 20-year-old daughter, Tristan to join her.

The blood drive was held inside Sport's Chalet in honor of the two employees Victor Gonzalez and Lauren Polzin that are hospitalized with severe burns, due to a gas explosion on March 1, 2013.

I applauded Leah's eagerness and asked if she had donated blood before? Most people have to think about it, before they donate blood. Leah jumped at the opportunity. "I've been donating blood since I was 18," Leah told me. "My grandma was very involved with the Red Cross. I always feel like I am honoring her memory when I donate."

Leah and her family strongly believe in supporting the community. "I think our Foothills community has a very strong family feel. When one of us is in need, our community is so wonderful about jumping in and helping," shared Leah.

The staff at the blood drive estimated about 32 donors. Almost 100 people showed up to give blood last Tuesday.

"It was Logan's first time donating. He really enjoyed the sense of community and pride he got from helping," said Leah. Tristan was all ready to give, however since she spent time in Cambodia last summer, she was unable to donate.

The American Red Cross has some requirements for people donating blood. You must be 17-years-old in many states. Some states will allow 16-year-old teens with a parental consent. You must be healthy, and weigh at least 110 pounds.

Leah told many of her fellow Dilbeck real estate agents about the blood drive. Her husband, Kirk Dilbeck, proudly told his employees at Inter Valley Escrow about Leah, Logan and Tristan. He encouraged them to go donate too.

Due to the success of this blood drive, they are planning another one. Next time, I promised Leah I would give her a few days notice, so she would have time to rally up the Dilbeck troops.
