Jason London's Cats Go for Coffee in La Cañada

The famous actor and his wife take their toilet-trained kitties with them just about everywhere.

When actor Jason London heads out for coffee, he grabs his keys, some cash and his cats: Hugo and Oliver.

London, of Dazed and Confused fame, and his wife, Sofia, take their short-haired domestic rescues with them just about everywhere they go: errands, camping, java runs. The latter is where the foursome spent some time Thursday afternoon.

Oliver pawed at a tree Outside Zeli Coffee Bar while his brother waffled between resting on the table and availing himself to a stranger's affection. The Londons have been socializing their cats since they were kittens, they said.

"We started when they were about 8 weeks. We put the harnesses on them first, they got used to that, then we took them out on the leashes and now they seem to love it,'' Jason said, noting his cats are just as socialized as his friends' dogs.

Of course, these cats do have an edge over their canine counterparts: Hugo and Oliver use the toilet.

"We have no litter in our home,'' he added, grousing at the scattered mess that usually finds its way dotted throughout cat owners' homes. He attributed the felines' successful toilet training to his wife. Sofia said she used a training system from a pet store, rather than trying to build one from scratch.

Recently the Los Angeles couple took their kitty kids to Joshua Tree, where Hugo and Oliver enjoyed chasing lizards. On Thursday, they seemed content watching passersby and staring intently, but not lunging toward, some nearby kids.

Then again, hanging out at a busy cafe is a daily outing for these felines. The Londons meet up with friends every morning at a coffee house near their home, he said. Their friends bring dogs, they bring Hugo and Oliver.

"People [socialize] pot belly pigs—this is cooler,'' he said.
