Five Things You Need to Know Today: The Weekend Edition

Where to see fireworks, what to BBQ, and even a cool spot to grab some quiet time are all offered up to help get your holiday weekend started. Check out Patch's five picks you need to know for this Fourth of July weekend.

1. Not sure what to do with your time off?  with fireworks shows, patriotic concerts, and more July 4th activities. Also be sure to check out '1776' at the Glendale Centre Theatre.

2. While fireworks are illegal in La Cañada, if you're heading out to one of LA's neighborboods that allows private fireworks, make sure you're prepared and know how to stay safe. While sparklers may seem like a good idea, when not properly used all fireworks can cause harm. The Los Angeles County Fire Deparment provides information that identifies and explains the dangers of fireworks.

3. It's going be hot this weekend, with temperatures in the 90s.  Maybe a few hours in air conditioning with a popcorn and soda can help the whole family relax. Check out a movie at the United Artists Cinema, 1919 Verdugo Blvd. Right now, family-friendly films dominate the line up. Check out showtimes here.

4. Whether you're stumped for new ideas or just want to add to the line-up of family favorites, Patch has to for your Fourth.

5. The biggest fireworks show around town takes place at the Rose Bowl and tickets are on sale right now. Americafest takes places Monday, July 4, and includes motorcycle stunts, live music, and of course, epic fireworks. Tickets are on sale now at the Rose Bowl and Ticketmaster. Kids under seven are free, everyone else pays $13. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. See Ticketmaster or the Rose Bowl websites for more information.
