Crime Blotter: Cable Outage Reveals Theft

The following reports were taken from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, Crescenta Valley Station. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Grand Theft of Cable Equipment

At 4:30 p.m. on July 12, an emloyee of Charter Cable of Glendale contacted deputies regarding a theft from inside a cable power supply can located in the 3800 block of Chevy Chase Drive. The employee, responding to a work order for a power failure, found the can's lock drilled and punched out. Stolen from the can were 3, 12-volt batteries valued at $540 and a power inverter, valued at $850, used to convert AC current to DC current.

Residential Burglary

Deputies responded to a burlgary alarm activation in the 5400 block of Arroyo Summit Drive at 12:18 p.m. Thursday, July 14. Upon arriving at the residence, deputies found glass panels of a French door and a rear door of the house smashed. Investigating further, deputies reported finding in an upstairs bedroom a wooden chest of drawers with several drawers partially open. The homeowner was not able to immediately determine if any items were missing from the residence.

Vehicle Burglary

A resident in the 4700 block of Hampton Road reported to deputies that sometime between 11 p.m. July 14 and 9:00 a.m. Friday, someone smashed the driver's side window of her 2009 Chevrolet Impala. Stolen from the locked vehcile was a Garmin GPS with charger valued at $215, however, the victim's purse and iPhone remained untouched on the car's driver's seat.

Under-Construction Residence Burglarized

Sometime between 5 p.m. July 16 and 7 a.m. Monday, suspects entered an under-construction property in the 4000 block of Chevy Chase Drive and made off with 15 boxes of ceramic tile and 10 containers of tile adhesive. The property is not currently habitated. Deputies reportedly found pry marks  on a door leading from the garage to the house. The female property-owner noted a piece of plywood used to secure the door had been removed.
