La Cañada Blockbuster to Close

The financially troubled video rental chain will shutter its Foothill Boulevard branch in March.

La Cañada's is another U.S. casualty in the video rental chain that continues to close unprofitable stores.

A closing sign greets customers at the 2220 Foothill Blvd. store, which will remain open through March, an employee told Patch. The employee said further information would have to come from store manager Levi Paul, who would be in Wednesday.

At the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month in Las Vegas, the CEO of Dish Network Corp, which bought the troubled chain in April 2011, said all stores not making money would be shuttered, according to a Jan. 12 Reuters article

The article stated that Dish announced in July it would keep 1,500 stores open and retain 15,000 employees, which amounted to 90 percent of its outlets at that time.

Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy in September 2010 and was bought by Dish Network in a bankruptcy auction.
