LCFEF to Honor Mayor Stephen A. Del Guercio with Prestigious Spirit of Outstanding Service Award

The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation, a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to raising money each year for the local public schools, will honor current La Cañada Flintridge Mayor, Stephen A. Del Guercio, with the prestigious Spirit of Outstanding Service Award at the 22nd annual LCFEF Gala on March 9, 2012.

The LCFEF will roll out the red carpet at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena on March 9 with the Hollywood-themed event, When the Stars Come Out.  Guests will enjoy live music, a delicious dinner and hosted cocktails while bidding on the many auction lots generously donated by community members.

Honoree Del Guercio has dedicated a major portion of his life to enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of La Cañada.  LCFEF President, Paris Cohen, said “Steve’s countless hours of service through city government and various community organizations have brought tremendous benefits to our city, our schools and our community.”  His current term as mayor is his third, having served previously in 2003-‘04 and 2008-’09.  He has been a member of the La Cañada Flintridge City Council for twelve years and held the position of Planning Commissioner for the city before that.

Of particular relevance to the Educational Foundation, Del Guercio, in addition to serving as a Director for six years and a Trustee of the Endowment for five, has been a significant advocate of the close working relationship between the city and the school district, resulting in the maximization of resources and support for the schools.  In addition, as a past chairman and member of the city/school district joint use committee, he has championed the ongoing support of the High School’s Information Resource Center, the Lanterman Auditorium, traffic management improvements and programs at the school sites, and the maintenance and improvements of the sports fields and tennis courts, all of which directly benefit students attending LCUSD.

Del Guercio and his wife, Elysa, have three children, Chris, Jordan and Cami, who have all attended La Cañada schools.
