LCPC to Host Sinatra-Themed Gala in Pasadena
The La Cañada Presbyterian Church's Parent Education Spring Gala will honor Jan Roberts, a beloved parent in the Crescenta and San Gabriel valleys, with the 2nd Annual Shining Star Award.
Editor's Note: Patch received the following press release from La Cañada Presbyterian Church.
The Parent Education program has got Frank Sinatra under their skin and their March 2 gala, “My Kind of Town: Music, Martinis, and More,” will do ol’ Blue Eyes proud.
Old Town Pasadena’s Pandora on the Green will host the event, showcasing recording artist Michael North who will perform Sinatra hits-- while LCPC’s Chuck Osburn and comedian John Cervenka will make the crowd merry.

The evening will honor Jan Roberts with the 2nd Annual Shining Star Award. Loved by many in the Crescenta and San Gabriel Valleys, Roberts has shared her parenting expertise with local families over the past 40 years. During those four decades, Roberts has served the community as a local elementary teacher, LCPC Parent Education instructor, private parenting consultant, community volunteer, and as the cherished Parent Coach columnist for both the La Cañada and Pasadena Outlook Newspapers.
"Jan has not only blessed LCPC Parent Education through her 20 years as an exemplary instructor, but she has also contributed widely as an innovator. She has pioneered the Elementary, Tween, Teen, College Freshman & Beyond curriculums-- providing parent education in areas that are truly not available other places. The Crescenta and San Gabriel Valleys are very fortunate to have these resources because of Jan,” said LCPC Parent Education Director, Anne Bierling.

Roberts added: "I believe strong families are foundational to both our community and society-- and I have wanted to do everything I could to support families by helping them through challenges so they could enjoy the rewards of parenting. My family has brought me so much satisfaction in my life that I want to help others achieve that as well."
The community is encouraged to attend the March 2 event-- both to benefit the LCPC Parent Education Program which has served the San Gabriel Valley for 33 years-- and to support Roberts. There will be more than one hundred and fifty silent auction items and a live auction will be sure to keep patrons on their toes. The spacious venue will also offer a delectable feast and signature Sinatra drinks.
“The food will be amazing and the venue is fun and hip in a great location in Old Town Pasadena. It's a great opportunity to have a 'parent night out' that isn't too far from home,” said gala co-chair Sarah Nagel.
Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by Feb 14th by contacting Nagel at sbartelsnagel@gmail.com. Donations are also needed for both the silent and live auctions. Go to www.lacanadapc.org/parented to print a donation form or contact Amy Powell at spowellfamily@sbcglobal.net.
All proceeds from the evening will benefit LCPC Parent Education and select charitable organizations that fulfill the Parent Education mission of helping families thrive.
Second Semester Classes begin February 7th, 2012, with schedules and online registration at www.lacanadapc.org/parented. For more information contact the Parent Education Office at 818-790-6708 x 205.
