Patch Blog: I Choose Life in the Age Old Debate

Give life a chance.

This week I was outraged to read a blog from a person taking a poll. Along with the poll, this person was also taking opinions in order to propose a concept; If medical technology could predict that a baby was going to be born gay would you have it aborted? Yes or No?

Ok, I thought to myself, "This Pro-choice author is proposing abortion should the child not be a "designer baby," What next? Aborting babies for not having the right color of hair or eyes?

The woman went on to say it would be for the benefit of the child. She has deduced that the child would be subjected to a world of discrimination and bullying (Obviously by her and her fellow thinkers). I have battled discrimination and bullying. Yes protect your children, but give them a chance at life. Aborting a child before they are born based on their genetic make up would save the child from a harsh world. Hmmm, it seems to me that this world is harsh to everyone; not just children who may potentially be gay.

Children are born meek and suffer at the hands of the bully. Children have accidents and are bullied and some children are strong and they too are bullied. I wondered why she did not think to find the genetic material of the bully and suggest we abort them. If we aborted the bully gene, that would solve the problem, right? Or is it just a genetic trait that all humans have the potential to be bullies? Then it occurred to me that this woman may be a discriminatory, passive aggressive bully herself to propose such a thing. People are discriminated against for their skin color, religion and the list goes on. Wouldn't it make more sense to remove the "bully gene"? Seems to me that would be an effective solution.

Actually, it would not. Humans will always be imperfectly human. Perception and choices determine much of the outcome of what we experience. If a chaild is born gay, an alternative to abortion may be to change our minds about being "different." Being different is everywhere. Our society becomes much more alive and beautiful when we learn to accept our difference, not kill them. We can never kill "different" anyway. It is in nature to continue to morph, change and create anew.

Imagine a child without a voice. Martin Luther King, Gandhi, Mother Teresa an others impacted this world because they were different. They affected change and their voices ring throughout the world today. Music and art have been produced by some of the greatest homosexual minds and souls.

I was born gay. I thank my mother for being Pro-life, for her moral values and for loving her children unconditionally. Straight or gay, black or white, Jewish, Muslim or Christian; its a rough world. The solution lies in awakening to the beauty of our differences and teaching our children to respect each others differences. There is beauty in everything if we lift the veil of hatred and prejudice.

Martin Luther King had it right when he said we must judge a person by the content of their character. not the color of their skin. This applies to sexual differences as well.

The Pro-life movement is compassionate to those victims of rape and incest and we support the right to life. We are the voice of that child. Our prayers are that the victims of these crimes carry that child to term, and realize they have options after giving birth. Some choose life and some do not.

One of my greatest regrets in life is never having children. And one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever done is stand outside an abortion clinic only to know they are throwing aborted babies in the trash inside these clinics.

Debate if you must, it is your right. However at the end of the day it comes down to one thing. MURDER!

We have no right to choose between our beliefs and a childs life. There is no choice. Life is life.
