“Finding Nouf” is set in contemporary Saudi Arabia in a culture far removed from our own. When sixteen-year-old Nouf disappears shortly before her wedding her prominent family hires a Palestinian desert guide, Nayir, to find her. Her body is discovered in the desert and the coroner determines Nouf died from drowning and was pregnant. When her family becomes disinterested in the case Nayir teams up with Katya, a female medical examiner, and together they seek to circumvent cultural restraints and find the truth.
Ferraris moved to Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of the first Gulf War to live with her then husband and his extended family of Saudi-Palestinian Bedouins, who had never welcomed an American into their lives before. Ferraris currently lives in San Francisco.
Copies of “Finding Nouf” will be available for purchase at the La Canada Library and local bookstores at the end of July.
