Winning LCF Float on Display Saturday

"If Pigs Could'' Fly,'' the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association's winning entry in Monday's Rose Parade, will be available for viewing at Memorial Park.

Did you miss the Rose Parade and pictures of La Cañada's float just won't do?

Come down to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. where "If Pigs Could Fly'' will be on display for the public, said Jim Geoghegan of the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association.

The porcine pilots netted the 2012 Bob Hope Humor Trophy from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. As the pig-piloted float cruised down Colorado Boulevard during Monday's 123rd Rose Parade, Frank Sinatra's "Come Fly with Me,'' crooned from the float's speakers.

"If Pigs Could Fly'' features an airplane with spinning propeller, an operating main rotor, two pusher propellers, assorted roataing gears, pulleys and bellows. Pink carnations comprise the three flying pigs. Patchwork fields consist of a variety of red, yellow, orange, pink and peach roses, intermingled with blue iris and green carnations.

The fluffly clouds are made up of cauliflower, kale, white spider mums and orchids.

Following Saturday's viewing, the float will return to its construction site, behind the Valley Water Company on Hampton Road. The company donates space to the Association. It is where all the construction on the float is done year round, Geoghegan said.

Official deconstruction will probably start after noon on Jan. 14, he added.
