Triple Digit Temps Threaten La Cañada

A heat wave that could produce 105-degree days in the valleys, is likely to leave La Cañada feeling pretty toasty, too.

Look out, La Cañada, there's anothear heat wave sizzling through the Southland.

The National Weather Service (NWS) on Tuesday issued a "special weather statement'' for valleys and foothills of Southern California that warns of temperatures reaching 105 and 107 degrees.

The warmer-than-normal temperatures should drop later in the week, as cooler air moves in, according to the weather service website.

La Cañada's extended forecast for the next few days shows Wednesday nearing 100 degrees, with Thursday hovering in the low 90s, both days expecting light winds of 5-10 mph. Friday is expected to dip into the mid 80s, with Saturday hitting the low 80s. The day also brings a slight chance of showers.

The NWS statement suggested folks stay in air conditioned spaces or under shade for the hottest part of the day, to check on elderly neighbors, and regardless of whether you leave the car windows cracked--do not leave pets or children inside vehicles. The temperatures skyrocket to life-threatening pretty quickly, according to the weather service's warning.

And because many La Cañadans call the foothills of Angeles National Forest their backyard, folks should be mindful that high temperatures mixed with off-shore winds can create hazardous fire conditions.
